Kerala is the most beautiful place on earth and everything about the place is special. The Arattu is a well-known festival that is held in the eminent Sree Krishnaswamy temple of Ambalapuzha. Situated about 10 kms from Alappuzha, near the national highway; it is widely known as the Ambalapuzha Arattu Festival. The local ruler Chembakasserry Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran established the Sree Krishnaswamy temple in the year 790 AD. He ruled the country as a trustee of Lord Krishna after assuming the name of Deva Narayana as he offered his state to the Lord Sree Krishna.

Arattu in Ambalapuzha Festivals

The Arattu in Ambalapuzha begins with ceremony of flag hoisting on the Atham(first day) day in Meenam i.e. March or April. On the Thiruvonam day in Meenam month by the Malayalam calendar, the actual Arattu festival takes place, which is considered as one of the important festivals of Kerala. This religious rite 'arattu', the traditional holy bath of the idol is observed with so much of ceremonial elegance and splendor that it is synonymous with celebrating a festival, The Festival of Arattu is held at the famous temple of Sree Krishnaswamy at Ambalapuzha known to many people as the Ambalapuzha Arattu Festival.

One of the vital features of Arattu in Ambalapuzha is Velakali, a ritual art form of Kerala. This ritual is also an important aspect that makes it one of the renowned Kerala Festivals. Another important thing of Ambalapuzha Arattu Festival, which is worth mentioning, is Ambalapuzha Palpayasam. It is rice pudding with lots of sweetness and is the main offering of this temple.
