Munnar Hill Station

Situated at the convergence of three mountain streams – Muthirapuzha, Nallathani and Kundala, Munnar lies about 1600 m above the sea level. Preferred by tourist from round the world, this is surely one of the best Hill Stations in Kerala. Munnar is well connected and can be reached easily. Kochi located at a distance of 130km is the nearest airport and the next is Madurai at a distance of 142km. The nearest railway stations are Kochi and Kottayam.

Munnar is one of the world famous tourist destinations of the world and the beauty of the place is just mesmerizing. There flows three mountain streams adding up to the beauty of the hill station. This was once the holiday resort of the British people and till date may love to spend their holidays in this green hilly area. The sprawling tea plantation of the place is amazingly beautiful. There is a vast variety of flora and fauna in the place. Wayanad is famous for tea, coffee, rubber, and masala spices. The humble nature of the people is very attractive. The British resident named J.D. Munro, understood the agricultural potential of the region and tried various experimentation crops like coffee, cinchona, sisal and cardamom. He later discovered that tea was the best suited for the climate and topography of Munnar in Kerala. With rambling estates, undulating hills, unsoiled waterfalls, picture-postcard hamlets and surging valleys, Munnar makes a soothing holiday destination.

Tea Museum :

The Kanan Devan Hills Produce Company houses India’s only tea museum in a century-old tea estate. The memorabilia preserved include an entombment urn from the second century B.C., a rotor vane (the old CTC - type tea processing machine), an original 1905 tea roller and the Pelton wheel used for power generation in a plant of 1920s. Another attraction is the rail engine wheel of the Kundala Valley Railway that ferried between Munnar and Top Station during early last century. Other exhibits include photographs, ornaments and century old relics. The most interesting thing to watch is tea tasting, processing and tea-picking demonstrations which make Munnar one of the top Kerala Hill Stations.

CSI Church :

CSI Church is located on a hill in the middle of Old Munnar and a major stop in your Kerala Tour. The church is a black basalt building with a prominent nave and a bell tower. Sanctified in 1910, the church still has its original 14 rows of elegant rosewood pews and antique chandeliers, not to mention the brass plaques venerating early tea planters.

Mount Carmel Church :

Mount Carmel Church was the first Roman Catholic Church in the High Ranges, which was established in 1898.The records of the church reveal that it gave shelter to the flood affected people in the year 1924. There is a chapel dedicated to St Anthony. It is said that when they touched the basement of the chapel the floodwater moved away.
