Nelliyampathy Hill Station

Located in the south of Palakkad Gap and at a distance of 52 kms from Palakkad, Nelliyampathy has every element that a hill station should have. These include the awe-inspiring scenery, a grand view of the murky mountains, pleasurable climate, plantations of tea, coffee and cardamom and profusion of flora and fauna. It is not surprising hence that Nelliyampathy is considered among the best hill stations in Kerala.

Wildlife sanctuaries of Parambikulam, Annamalai and Peechi-Vazhani are in close vicinity of Nelliyampathy. The range once owned by the maharajas of Kollengode and Kochi is now a part of Nenmara Forest Division. It consists of a chain of ridges split by valleys that proliferate evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, teeming with wildlife. A visit to this place will surely make your Kerala tour all the more pleasant. From the town of Nenmara in Palakkad district, the cloud-caressed peaks of the majestic Nelliyampathy hill ranges are a sight to behold.

Attractions in Nelliyampathy in Kerala

Pothundy : The Pothundy dam is a spectacular locale and one of the major draws for those on a tour to the Kerala Hill Stations. It lies on the way to Nelliyampathy, close to village of Nenmara and built across two tributaries of Ayalar River- Meenachadypuzha and the Padipuzha. It is basically an irrigation dam constructed in the 19th century.

Seetharkundu : Seetharkundu offers a spectacular view of the plains, as it is located within the Karuna plantations. The gnarled tree is also a major attraction besides the waterfalls here. It is said that Lord Rama spent his days here during ‘vanavasa’. You can have a fantastic valley view, and a 1000 m high waterfall providing an added attraction. From Palagapandy, one can trek or go by jeep to reach Mampara; another breathtaking vantage point at Nelliyampathy.

Mampara Grassland : The grassland can only be reached through a treacherous road. It offers fantastic views of the Palakkad range – grassy slopes, dense forests and a patchwork of thriving paddy fields.
